002: The Basics

12/22/2009

Did a compression test.
150-145-140-90

All look pretty good except cyl #4. I'm hoping it's just valve adjustment. I don't think it's rings though. No blue smoke after long idle.

Sparkplugs/oil change as well. I picked up a cap/rotor, but I'll be waiting to do those when I get more stuff in the mail.

Sparkplugs were horribly oily/fouled. cyl 4 was to the point of gap bridging. They were +4 plats. Swapped for coppers.

Cyls:
4-3-2-1

The plug wires were very odd. I've ordered new ones because they just don't seem to be fitting on right. Wanted to anyway, who knows how old these are.

There is a puff of oil at start up, I can only assume valve stem seals. No oil consumption that I know of, but I haven't exactly been driving the car long...

Oil: 5W-30 15k mobil 1 synth $25?
oil filter: advance "Purol" or something... $4

Plugs: bosch coppers. $2.49 each

Cap: $5
Rotor: $10.
(or was it cap: $10, rotor: $5? whatever.)

Total so far:
$454. It's running strong. Now, about that alternator...
