6/9/10
Purchased new tires for the Tail of the Dragon trip.
They performed well, but I need to do FCAB and such.

017: I live my life a quarter mile at a time...
5/2/10
Went to the track. It was hooking so good that I broke something.
Rolling into the throttle at the water box, did a quick burnout, and lined up at the tree. Revved it to 3k, expecting not to hook, and just DUMPED the clutch. It hooked, it hooked so good that something broke. My heart sunk and I knew I was going to be getting a tow home.
After pushing the car back past the start lines, the tree operator thought I had jumped timing.
Long story short, he was right. The rotor button had split and was not at the correct advance. Here's a photo:

016: Earth Shaking TORQUE
4/13/10
I took the e30 to an autocross and after a hard run there was a ton of vibration. Come to find out that my motor mounts had been totally destroyed. Obviously, that's a by product of earth shattering torque from a 1.8L 1800s gasoline engine.
I had bought motor mounts for $20 a few months before, because I figured I'd have to replace them. Smart, huh?
Here are the old ones. O_O
Yeah, those are supposed to be once piece.

015: Diff and Clutch Swap.
3/25/10
Not feeling that great, but still gotta 'do werk.'
Dropped the exhaust and snapped an extension at the header.
Swapped the diff to an LSD 3.73 from the open 3.64.
Did I mention I was sick?
Here was the problem with engagement, at least, part of the problem:
So Friday afternoon I needed to go get the flywheel resurfaced. After hearing the machinist was at lunch, I left the flywheel. I wanted to have it lightened at well. Two hours later, I decided to call them to see what was up. Come to find out that it was passed the minimum thickness. What does that mean? It means a $400 bill for a new flywheel. One of two in the USA, shipped from California.
Yeah, that's the old one that everyone signed. It's in my room now. I'll always remember the mistake of buying an e30. At least, that's what my parents say.
And finally, actually doing the hard work. Dave helping out and Dylan giving moral support.
Clutch job turned from less than $500 to about $800. I think I'm going to stop counting costs.

014: Green mirrors, other news.
3/9/10
Clutch is slipping. I haven't been driving the car, even though I took it to an autox because of the need for tires and the worn clutch. It grabs fine when warmed up(read: abused), but 2nd gear pulls onto the highway slip right around 3k at WOT. I've purchased a spec stage 3 clutch and I'll be installing it soon.
I had some down time, so I painted the mirrors, because it's really just a really high DTM tourer.
Spec Stage 3, with high clamp pressure plate.

013: Alternator revisited, odometer fixing.
1/24/10
Alternator stopped working again. I've learned more about charging systems than I ever wanted to learn. That's a good skill to have though, if I ever buy a VW or something French. I had another cluster in the 'parts box' that the previous owner gave to me, so I decided to swap out the cluster while I was there to get a working odometer.
Well, let me first say that both of the odometers are broken. One says 217k and the other like 116k. I'd guess the car has 200k+. Whatever. I ended up back at this, since I didn't want to mess with it.
Throwing the cluster back in the car. The charging system has an "exciter" circuit that requires a jump start to the alternator. ...Or something like that. The light that says if your alternator is charging or not on your instrument cluster is part of that circuit. If the bulb is out, well, your alternator won't work. My bulb was working, however. The circuit goes from switched 12V to the ECU -> cluster -> blub -> cluster -> alternator. Because there wasn't very much information on r3v or e30tech, I didn't know where to start. Luckily Dr. Bentley had my back. There was a continuity issue from the cluster to the alternator. Ran a new line to the firewall and, VOILA. Charging circuit completed.
I found out a few days later that my battery was also on the way out and I was chasing my tail with parasitic draw.
